About this place
The Greenhalgh Trail is a three to four mile there-and-back walk north of Kanab, for people on foot and on horseback. The name is not said the way it looks.
It is named for the Greenhalgh brothers, two local characters who homesteaded the area in the 1900s.
There are two main trailheads.
Walkers and riders with full-sized vehicles can park on the northeast side of Kanab Creek. From there it is about 0.4 miles on foot down the road to the ATV trailhead.
If you have an ATV you can cross the bridge and drive those 0.4 miles instead.
From the ATV trailhead the Greenhalgh Trail follows an old stock trail. Mail used to come along it, across the Coral Pink Sand Dunes from the towns to the west.
After just over 0.5 miles the trail leaves the old mail route and climbs the cliffs on the north side of Trail Canyon.
It runs about another mile and ends at an overlook just below the mesa top.
The land on top of the mesa is private. Do not go onto it.
This trail is for feet and horses only. No bicycles and no motor vehicles.
Dogs are welcome, but their waste goes home with you.
The trailheads are barely developed and there is nothing laid on.

Getting there
From the Kanab Visitor Center in Kanab, turn right onto Highway 89 and follow it through Kanab and on north. After 3.8 miles, turn left, opposite the entrance to the Hog Canyon OHV Trails Network. Follow the gravel road 0.1 mile and park on the northeast side of Kanab Creek. On an ATV you can cross the bridge and carry on roughly 0.4 miles to the ATV trailhead.
