About this place
Some places come with a whole page of description. Dixie Meadow comes with two facts: there's a toilet, and you can camp. That's it. We looked for more information and couldn't find much.
The camping is wide open. You pull in, drive around until you find a flat clearing that isn't blocking somebody's turnaround, and you're done. Nothing reserved, nothing numbered, nobody checking.
Get there before dark. Level ground is harder to spot by headlamp than it sounds. You'll take the first flat spot you find and regret it by morning.
Don't underrate that toilet. At a place this primitive you'd usually be off in the trees with a trowel, pacing out your distance from the nearest water.
Read the driving directions before you leave the pavement. That's where these trips go wrong.

The roads around this place are not maintained for a regular car. That comes from the US Forest Service, who grade every road by the kind of vehicle it is looked after for. Those records cover the roads nearby. They do not cover the last stretch in to the campsite, and nobody has checked that part. Treat this as a warning. We are not promising what you will find when you get there. If you have driven it, tell us what it was like and we will say so here.
Rules and restrictions
Nobody collects trash here. Everything you bring in has to come out with you again, food scraps included. Bring a bag for it.
