Over 5,000 acres here, all of it public, and the rock is what makes it.
Vertical-walled canyons, caves and other formations run through it. It is striking. They matter as habitat as well as scenery. Golden eagles, kestrels, great horned owls, hawks and falcons all nest in them.
People used these caves and formations as shelters and hunting blinds as long as 10000 years ago. Pictographs and other traces of them are still here.
Elk, deer, antelope, coyotes and black bears live in the area, along with birds of prey and upland game birds.
People climb here, walk, watch wildlife and explore the caves.
